The engineers over at Lee Filters have finally addressed the vignetting and blue colour cast issues of their most popular filter, the Big Stopper. They have released a new series of ND filters called the ProGlass IRND range, which are manufactured to a much higher standard than the stoppers. Two years in the making, the ProGlass IRND range sets a whole new standard in high quality glass neutral density filters.
These filters are remarkably neutral, with virtually no colour shift and extremely accurate stop values. And because they block both infrared and ultraviolet pollution, blacks remain pure and clean, while colours are crisp, punchy and vibrant. In addition to the colour and contrast improvements, these filters produce a near-perfect exposure across the frame, which means no more heavy vignette/light fall-off.
The ProGlass IRND range was initially designed for the movie industry, to meet the exacting requirements of leading cinematographers. The Cine version of the filters has been quickly adopted for use on major feature films and TV dramas, and they are widely acknowledged as the highest-quality neutral density filters available today.
Please note that as these filters are substantially more expensive to manufacture, they are not a replacement for the stoppers, but a new tier of ND filters, available in more densities than ever before. Note – Like the stoppers, all IRND filters of 6+ stops have a gasket/seal on the back to prevent light leakage.
